Job Title Head Coach - 2027 Season
Job Description

Dominion Hills Area Recreation Association, a NVSL Division 7 swim team, is seeking a high-energy, experienced Head Coach with strong technical skills and sprinting expertise for the 2027 summer swim season.

The Dominion Hills Thunderducks, based in Arlington, VA have approximately 200 swimmers ages 5 - 18, including swimmers in our developmental program. We value our positive team culture and are equally focused on swimming fast, having fun, and promoting good sportsmanship. Thunderducks practices start mid- to late-May and end on the last Saturday in July. The Head Coach is expected to attend all practices, meets, and official team activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Serve as the recognized leader of the team, modeling positive sportsmanship and fun while competing.
- Supervise assistant and junior coaches.
- Be familiar with NVSL rules and communicate those with other coaches.
- Create and maintain a positive, energetic, inclusive, and fun team environment where swimmers of all abilities feel valued and engaged.
- Participate in events, including team socials and end-of-season banquet
- Plan and lead rigorous, age- and ability-appropriate daily practices for both competitive club swimmers and swimmers whose primary competitive experience is NVSL.
- Work cooperatively with pool management, team representatives, other coaches and the DHARA Board.
- Provide constructive, age-appropriate feedback on stroke mechanics, starts, turns, race strategies, conditioning, and competitive skills.
- Organize meet lineups using SwimTopia and create A-meet and developmental-meet entries.
- Attend and direct all swim meets (A-meet,  developmental-meets, Relay Carnival, and All-Star meets)

Requirements:

- Previous Head Coach or extensive assistant coaching experience.
- Previous competitive swimming experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience, knowledge of, and interest in working with children of all ages and ability levels.
- Strong knowledge of NVSL and USA swimming rules is preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Effective communication, organization, leadership, and collaboration skills.
- Good judgment and a firm commitment to promoting a positive team culture and good sportsmanship
