| The Somerset-Olde Creek (SOC) Swim Team is hiring a Head Swim Coach for the 2026 Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL) Season. The dates of employment will be mid- May through August 1, 2026. SOC is located near the city of Fairfax and George Mason University. We are a friendly community looking for a dynamic head coach to lead a small, but mighty team of approximately 100 swimmers. We are looking for a coach who can foster a fun, positive team environment while developing swimmers’ skills and love of the sport. In 2025 the SOC Stingrays competed in NVSL Division 14. Responsibilities To provide coaching for the SOC Stingrays swim team at all scheduled practices and competitions in which the team participates, through the completion of the NVSL All- Star Championships on August 1, 2026. Practices will be held weekday afternoons May 26 through June 16. Following the end of the Fairfax County Public School year, morning practices will begin on June 18. Job description As the Head Coach, you will have a range of responsibilities and expectations that contribute to the team’s overall success. Special emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, ensuring safety in the pool while prioritizing a positive and fun learning environment for all swimmers during the summer season. Expected responsibilities include: - Lead all practices and participate in team social activities (e.g., Friday evening potlucks, end of season banquet) throughout the season to foster team spirit. - Design practice workouts that enable swimmers to meet their goals, with particular emphasis on strokes, starts and turns, and provide regular feedback to swimmers on their progress. - Develop meet sheets, strategize, and attend Time Trials, Saturday morning “A” Meets, Monday evening “B” Meets, Relay Carnival, IM Carnival, Divisional Championships, and any NVSL All-Star Meets that our SOC swimmers qualify to swim. - Provide stroke development and swim technique coaching to all age groups (ages range from 5 - 18). - Offer productive feedback to swimmers and review and remediate disqualifications. - Supervise, schedule and manage the assistant coaches and junior coaches and their development. - Collaborate with the Team Representatives and team Data Coordinator to exchange data, prepare for meets, and coordinate the season. - Communicate with parents and families regularly about swimmer development and team expectations; promote good sportsmanship among athletes and foster friendly and open communication. - Adhere to all safety and health guidelines set by national and local governments, the NVSL, as well as those put in place by the SOC Pool and Rec Club. - Any other reasonable duties not specified above as directed by the team representatives. In conjunction with these duties and responsibilities, we anticipate that you will conduct yourself in a professional and appropriate manner with swimmers, parents, pool members, and staff. Requirements - Competitive swimming or prior coaching experience - Strong knowledge of NVSL rules and procedures - Ability to inspire and motivate swimmers of all ages and abilities - Lifeguard and First Aid Certification - Pool Operator License (must obtain before season) - SafeSport Certification and Concussion Awareness Training (before the start of swim season) Preferences - Previous Experience with the NVSL, including but not limited to, as a swimmer, coach, team representative, or parent To apply, please email resume to SOC Team Reps at socteamrep@gmail.com |
