Job Title Head Swim Coach - 2026 Season
Job Description

The Village West Vikings are seeking a committed, enthusiastic Head Coach for the 2026 season. The Vikings are the proud recipient of the 2025 NVSL Division 16 Sportsmanship Award, and we are looking for a Head Coach to continue to foster that spirit of sportsmanship and positivity for all of our swimmers. We are a mid-size team, averaging about 140 swimmers, and are proud to welcome swimmers of all skill levels. Village West’s pool board is extremely supportive of the swim team, and the pool is located in a convenient West Springfield location.. 

Head Coach Position Description:

Required Qualifications:
- Competitive swimming experience
- Coaching experience
- Certified in CPR/First Aid
- Certified Lifeguard
- Certified Pool Operator
- All NVSL training requirements

The Vikings will reimburse for any necessary training requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Be present and lead all practices for the 8U, 9-12, 13-18 Vikings and developmental Little Vikings age groups.
- Arrive at the pool at 0630 every weekday morning to prepare for practice. (Twice weekly evening practice requirements can be discussed further.)
- Attend and coach all meets and meet warmups:
   - Time trials
   - Five official NVSL "A" meets
   - Four developmental "B" meets
   - IM carnival meet
   - Relay carnival meet
   - Divisional meet
- Participate in Friday night pep rallies at the pool.
- Plan a goal-oriented practice schedule for the entirety of the season, for all age groups.
- Mentor Assistant and Junior coaches in workout/practice planning, coaching, etc. 
- Provide stroke and turn instruction and feedback to swimmers for all strokes and events (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, relays, and IM).
- Provide start and finish instruction.
- Participate in selecting swimmers for all Saturday A meets, IM carnival, relay carnival, and divisionals.
- Prepare meet sheets in coordination with the swim team representatives and the team data coordinator.
- Attend setup/breakdown of home meets.
- Review meet performance with the team.
- Address disqualifications promptly and help swimmers to enable correction.
- Coordinate entries for the NVSL divisionals meet at the end of the season.
- Attend the end of season awards banquet.
- Communicate as needed with parents regarding performance, discipline, etc.
- Communicate frequently and openly with Team Representative, including at least one weekly in-person meeting after practice.
- Participate in an end of season review with coaches and Team Representative.
