Job Title | Assistant Coach - 2025 Summer Season |
Job Description | |
The Holmes Run Acres (HRA) Hurricanes seek an Assistant Coach for the Summer 2025 season. The HRA Hurricanes are an enthusiastic and tight-knit community that values teamwork, personal achievement, and good sportsmanship. We believe swimming transcends competition—building confidence, developing lifelong skills, and forming lasting friendships, and we are looking for an Assistant Coach who shares these values. In addition to the team’s athletic responsibilities, we value our coaches as community members. As such, the Assistant Coach will be encouraged to attend all pep rallies and other social events. In partnership with the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach will lead 3-hour afternoon practices from late May until school lets out for the summer, transitioning to morning practices in mid-June and continuing through mid-July. In addition, there are 1-hour evening practices on Tuesdays/Thursdays during June/July. The Assistant Coach will collaborate with the Head Coach and help supervise a small group of teenage Lane Leader volunteers. Coaches will work closely with the Team Representatives, who the Pool Board appoints to manage the day-to-day affairs of the swim team. Practices will have a broad focus: many swimmers are new to the sport and gaining confidence in swimming unassisted 25y. Others are “barely legal” and will need instruction on stroke proficiency and development. Our more experienced swimmers will still benefit from technical instruction, encouragement, and conditioning. Practice sessions are divided by age (8 & under, 9-12 year olds, 13 & older) with differing abilities within the age groups. The Head Coach and Assistant Coach will decide how to divide responsibilities together, but both should be comfortable coaching at all skill levels. As the Assistant Coach, you will have a range of key responsibilities that contribute to the overall success of our team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Attend all practices and participate in team social activities.- Attend Time Trials, Saturday morning “A” Meets, Monday evening “B” Meets, Relay Carnival, IM Carnival, Mini Meets for 10 & younger, Divisional Championships, and any NVSL All-Star Meets that our HRA swimmers will participate in. - Provide stroke development and swim technique coaching to all age groups. - Offer productive feedback to swimmers and review and remediate disqualifications. - Adhere to NVSL standards of conduct and promote good sportsmanship among athletes. - Help supervise and mentor a group of teenage Lane Leaders. - Assist the Head Coach in creating and implementing daily practice plans for all age groups. - Work with the Head Coach to create meet sheets, strategize, and prepare for Saturday’s “A” meets and the Divisional Relay Carnival. - Collaborate with the Team Representatives to exchange data, prepare for meets, and coordinate the season. ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS - Lifeguard certification - First Aid certification - Experience with the NVSL, either as a previous swimmer, coach, Team Rep, or parent - SafeSport Certification and Concussion Awareness Training (before the start of swim season)
