The Long Branch Dolphins, in Annandale, VA, are seeking a Head Swim Coach for the 2025 NVSL summer season (late May – late July). We are a small team in Division 16 that prioritizes fun and sportsmanship. Our swimmers love to race and we strive to put our best foot forward at every meet.
The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic leader who has a passion for competitive swimming, superior knowledge of stroke and race technique, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with and build a community of swimmers (ages 5-18), assistant and volunteer coaches, parents, and team representatives.
The Head Coach oversees all aspects of the Dolphins swim program. Responsibilities:

Manage and mentor the junior coaching staff.

Develop daily practice plans and run practices for all age groups (8 and under through 15+) every day during the season. Afternoon practices begin the day after Memorial Day and move to mornings once school is out in mid-June.

Build a strategic meet sheet for Saturday morning A meetings to maximize points scored for the team. Collaborate

Lead the team in all meets (Saturday morning A meets, developmental B meets on Monday evenings, and Relay and IM Carnivals on weekday evenings), watching all races and providing feedback during and after meets as warranted. Lead pep rallies on Friday evenings before home meets.

Coordinate with the Little Dolphins pre-team program to build a pipeline of younger swimmers.

Collaborate with the data manager to exchange data before meets and work closely with the team reps to plan the season.

Motivate and encourage the team through positivity, constructive feedback, leading cheers and pep rallies, and demonstrating a willingness to develop swimmers of all ages and levels. Look for opportunities to build team spirit, including running our Swimmer of the Week recognition program. Work with swimmers to foster good sportsmanship and respect for each other and other teams.
Requirements for the position include:

Previous coaching experience working with recreational and/or competitive level swimmers, creating a competitive meet sheet for Saturday A meets, and managing junior coaching staff.

Knowledge of proper stroke and race technique and best practices and the proven ability to work with swimmers to establish and achieve swimming goals.

Lifeguard certification and/or CPR/Water Safety certifications.

Pool operator’s license (or willingness to get certified).

Knowledge of NVSL rules and Hy-Tek team/meet software preferred.
