Head Coach Position at Dominion Hills Pool Job Description Dominion Hills—an NVSL Division 7 swim team—is seeking a kid-friendly, enthusiastic, and experienced Head Coach with a strong background in stroke development and technical skills for the 2025 summer swim season. We would also like this coach to run our winter swim program. The Dominion Hills Thunder Ducks have approximately 200 swimmers ages 5-18. We are equally focused on swimming fast while nurturing a positive team culture, having fun, and promoting good sportsmanship. Thunder Ducks practices start in mid-May and run through the last Saturday in July. Meets are held Monday evenings and Saturday mornings throughout the season, plus two relay meets on Wednesday evenings. The team hosts a variety of social events and pep rallies during the season. The Head Coach is expected to attend all practices, meets, and official team activities. Head Coach Responsibilities: • Create an enthusiastic, fun, positive, safe, and inviting team for all swimmers of all skill levels.
• Develop and implement practice plans for swimmers of all ages and levels, and supervise coaching staff execution of the plans.
• Assist in hiring and management of coaching staff, including head assistant coach and multiple assistant and mini coaches.
• Ensure all swimmers receive constructive and appropriate feedback regarding performance and swim technique during practices and meets, including working to correct individual DQs.
• Mentor and manage swim team coaching staff.
• Enthusiastically attend and participate in all swim team meets and events.
• Take the lead on meet preparation, including creating competitive Saturday A meet line-ups, reviewing and approving meet entries, and confirming swimmer eligibility.
• Grow team spirit, work with coaching staff and senior swimmers to coordinate cheers, select meet and pep rally themes, motivate and celebrate swimmer achievements, and have fun!
• Work with Pool Manager and Swim Team Reps during the off-season on staffing decisions and season planning.
• Maintain effective communications and working relationships with the Pool Manager, Swim Team Reps, and DH Board.
Requirements: • 5+ years of swim coaching experience, USA club coaching preferred.
• 2+ years of NVSL coaching experience (NVSL head coaching experience preferred, including experience managing a coaching staff).
• Previous competitive swimming experience.
• Experience and interest in working with children of all ages and swim abilities.
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with NVSL and USA Swimming rules.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Good judgment and a firm commitment to promoting a positive team culture and good sportsmanship.
• Lifeguard certified.
