Job Description
Position Summary
The McLean Swim and Tennis Association (MSTA) is seeking an experienced, high-energy, kid-friendly, and established Head Coach for its McLean Marlins summer swim team. With nearly 200 swimmers of all abilities, the Marlins are equally focused on swimming fast and having fun, having won the Sportsmanship award numerous times across different divisions over the past decade.

Head Coach applicants should have a proven track record of working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills. They should be experienced in coaching swimmers across multiple age groups, from 6-year-old beginners to Olympic Trial-level high schoolers. The ideal candidate will embody a positive attitude of inclusion and teamwork, with a history of effectively communicating with and motivating swimmers to achieve their goals, including fostering an enjoyable swimming experience.

Essential Job Task
The Head Coach is responsible for the conduct of the aquatics portion of the summer swim program, including but not limited to:
? Staff Management
? Supervise Assistant and Developmental Coaches during all practices and events
? Ensure scheduling and coordination of Assistant and Developmental Coaches
? Provide regular feedback and guidance to Assistant and Developmental Coaches
? Serve as a mentor, offering professional development opportunities for the coaching staff
? Set clear on-deck expectations and responsibilities for Assistant and Developmental Coaches

? Practice Management and Skills Development
? Develop and manage age-appropriate and skill-level-appropriate practice plans
? Ensure the coaching staff is capable of executing the established practice plans
? Provide regular developmental feedback and encouragement to all swimmers to improve performance, collaborating with the coaching staff to deliver swimmer feedback
? Attend all swim meets
? Lead the creation of competitive meet sheets, including for Saturday 'A' meets, Divisional Relays, and Divisionals
? Oversee the organization of swimmers at swim events, placing them in appropriate events, and deploy Assistant Coaches to ensure the smooth running of 'B' meets
? Maintain a safe, clean, and organized pool area during practices
? Create an educational, fun, safe, and inclusive experience for swimmers of all skill levels

? Team Management
? Foster a culture of strong sportsmanship
? Identify a "Swimmer of the Meet" on Saturdays/Mondays who exhibits one or more of the 9 "Portrait of a Swimmer" characteristics: Respect, Positivity, Teamwork, Humility, Enthusiasm, Determination, Integrity, Inclusivity, and Leadership
? Participate actively in all swim team activities
? Initiate, develop, and maintain positive relationships with swimmers, including encouraging Assistant Coaches and senior swimmers to take on leadership roles in creating a positive team culture

? Communication
? Promote all MSTA swim programs and services, including pre-season clinics, Future Marlins, and Group Lessons
? Respond to member inquiries regarding swim programs, policies, and procedures in a timely manner
? Communicate with parents as appropriate, especially during team social events
? Serve as the Marlins' biggest cheerleader, both during and outside of the summer swim season!

Education / Experience / Qualifications
? 5+ years of swim coaching experience as a head coach or assistant coach
? 2+ years swim coaching experience in the NVSL (Head coaching experience preferred)
? Bachelor's degree
? Excellent verbal and written communication skills
? Coaching membership in good standing with USA Swimming
? Red Cross Lifeguard training preferred
? Extensive knowledge of NVSL Rules

Salary Range: Base salary $15,000 to $17,000 plus end of season bonus; multiyear contract negotiable
