Job Title Head Swim Coach – 2025 Summer Season
Job Description

Fairfax Station Swim and Tennis Club is hiring a head coach for their NVSL summer swim team for the 2025 season. 

The Fairfax Station Flyers are seeking a positive, high-energy coach to join our fun and hard-working community of swimmers. A successful candidate will focus on stroke development, technique and race strategies while also fostering team spirit, modeling good sportsmanship and having fun!

The Flyers have approximately 150 swimmers and competed in NVSL Division 6 during the 2024 season. The season starts with evening practices from the last week of May until school is out in mid-June, then continues with morning practices from mid-June until the Individual All-Stars meet at the end of July. Meets are held on Monday nights and Saturday mornings with 2 additional Wednesday night relay meets. Additionally, team pep rallies are held on Friday nights.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend all practices, meets and official team events throughout the season, including but not limited to those listed above
  • Supervise and mentor a team of Assistant and Junior coaches
  • Create and implement daily practice plans including drills for all age groups (8 & under, 9-12, and 13 & over)
  • Provide coaching on stroke development and swim technique to all swimmers
  • Provide constructive feedback to swimmers about their meet performance during and after meets
  • Strategize and prepare for competitive Saturday A meets by creating a meet lineup and meet sheet and approving entries in Swimtopia
  • Work collaboratively with data volunteers to exchange data with other swim teams before meets
  • Prepare for developmental Monday meets by creating meet sheets and approving and vetting meet entries
  • Work collaboratively with the Team Reps and pool board to prepare for the upcoming season
  • Work to maintain and build a positive team culture by facilitating team cheers, leading pep rallies and bringing a positive and energetic spirit to the role
  • Work collaboratively with the Mini Flyers program
  • Adhere to NVSL Standards of conduct, demonstrate good sportsmanship and foster good sportsmanship and team spirit in the athletes

Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching student athletes of all ages
  • Knowledge of or experience with NVSL rules and procedures
