Truro Swordfish Swim Team Summer 2024 Head Coach

The Truro Swim Team is looking for a Head Swim Coach for the Summer 2024 season. 


Truro typically competes in NVSL Division 12. We are located in the Truro neighborhood in Annandale, VA (off of Little River Turnpike and Guinea Road). Our team includes approximately 110+ swimmers (ages 5-18). 


Head Coach applicants should be experienced in coaching swimmers across multiple age groups, have a positive attitude of inclusion and teamwork, and have a history of communicating and motivating swimmers to achieve their goals (including having fun!).

Our ideal candidate will be energetic, positive, and willing to focus on all levels of swimmers.  The head coach will be supported by one Assistant Head Coach and 2-3 Developmental Coaches.

Our evening practices begin the day after Memorial Day, and continue until Fairfax County Public School concludes.  Practices then move to the mornings Monday through Friday.  Meets are held Monday evenings and Saturday mornings through the month of July.

Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach for a swim team, including experience seeding meets

  • Current First Aid/ CPR and pool operator certification or willingness to get certified with team reimbursement

  • Knowledge of USA swimming rules and NVSL rules

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong teaching, mentoring and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to motivate team

  • Experience with and passion for working with children of all ages and ability levels.

  • Effective communication, organization, leadership, and collaboration skills. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with coaches, Team Representatives, and parents


Responsibilities:

  • Attend all practices, meets, and team events (including social events and setup/breakdown of meets)

  • Create practice workout: all four strokes, starts, turns, and finishes

  • Create competitive Saturday A meet sheets, in collaboration with Assistant and Developmental coaches as well as Team Reps

  • Provide constructive feedback to all swimmers

  • Provide guidance and feedback to Assistant and Developmental coaches

  • Stress the importance of teamwork and team spirit

  • Interact with parents, swimmers, fellow coaches, and team reps in a professional manner

  • Be a positive role model

  • Maintain frequent and open communication with team representatives
