Job Description: 

The Little Rocky Run Stingrays, a NVSL Division 2 neighborhood swim team is currently accepting applications for the position of Head Coach for the 2024 summer swim season. The Stingrays team consists of approximately 200 swimmers who reside in the Little Rocky Run community located in Clifton, VA. 

We are looking for an experienced coach, who in addition to strong stroke development and technical skills, possesses a great attitude, and a strong desire to work with swimmers of all ability levels, ages 5-18. We seek an enthusiastic coach who will create and cultivate a fun environment for our swimmers. 

Our program starts after Memorial Day weekend, with afternoon (after school) daily practice sessions, and switches to morning daily practices after the last day of school for Fairfax County. Practices during the summer begin approximately 8am and conclude at approximately 12:30pm. Practices and home meets are held at our community pool. 

Our meet schedule consists of both home pool and traveling away NVSL meets on Saturday mornings and WFDL (developmental) meets on Monday evenings from mid-June until the NVSL Divisional Championship Meet at the end of July. Daily morning practices for select swimmers who qualify for the NVSL Individual All-Star meet continue until the All-Star Meet which, this year, will be on the last Saturday in July. 

Head Coach Responsibilities

> Create and implement practice plans for swimmers at all levels of ability, including dry land practices in the event of inclement weather; 

> Manage coaching staff

> Conduct and lead all team practices 

> Instruct swimmers in correct stroke, turn, start and finish techniques; 

> Ensure all swimmers receive constructive and appropriate feedback regarding performance and swim technique during practices and at meets; 

> Prepare for all meets, collaborating with Team staff on swimmer eligibility and meet seeding; 

> Attend all time trials, NVSL and WFDL meets, and required social events; 

> Coordinate and attend Friday night pep rally activities 

> Coordinate and lead appropriate team-building activities; this may be during established or outside of regularly established practices times; 

> Maintain effective communications and working relationships with the Team's Board of Directors and general membership. 

Requirements: 

> Previous Head Coach or extensive assistant coaching experience. 

> Previous competitive swimming experience strongly preferred. 

> Experience working with children of all ages and ability levels. 

> Strong knowledge of NVSL and USA swimming rules. 

> Effective communication, organization, leadership, and collaboration skills. > Positive team spirit. 

> Current lifeguard certification. 

> Pool Operator certification (if not held; willingness to secure at team expense).
