Job Description:

The Lincolnia Park Recreational Club (LPRC)summer swim team, the Lazers, is seeking one or more Assistant Head Coach for the 2024swim season to assist the Head Coach supervise the younger coaches and instruct the swimmers. The Lazers are a well-established team located in Alexandria, Virginia. The Lazerscurrently compete in Division 15 of the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL), but likely will move up after winning the Division in 2023.

An ideal candidate would have significant coaching experience, and a bonus is connections to year-round and/or High School swimming programs, and thus the ability to bring in additional swimmers to bolster the Lazers’ swim team, particularly older swimmers. We want a fun program in which swimmers of all physical abilities improve their swimming skills, but one also that is competitive during Saturday swim meets. Encouraging a love of swimming, great swimming technique, and top sportsmanship fits the Lazers’ team history and we want that tradition to continue. To accomplish this, a Head Coach will have to be able to connect with K-12 swimmers, and encourage and motivate them to work hard to improve their swimming skills.

We are looking for a well-organized, motivated individual with great communications skills tohelp lead approximately 300 swimmers of all ability levels in our developmental and competitive summer swim league as well as coordinating and managing our junior coaches. The Assistant Head Swim Coach has duties and responsibilities to organize and manage the Lazers Team swim programs under the direction of the Head Coach, and to lead the program when the Head Coach is absent. The Assistant Head Coach will instruct Lazers swim team members in proper swimming technique, conditioning, and drills.

The Lazers Swim Season starts the Tuesday after Memorial Day with afternoon practices Monday-ThursdayOnce Fairfax County Public Schools end the school year, practices are held in the mornings Monday-Friday, and limited afternoon practices (for parents who cannot bring their swimmers to the morning sessions) Tuesday-Thursday. Developmental swim meets are held on Monday evenings and Competitive Meets are Saturday mornings throughout Northern Virginia until the end of July, with our All-Star meet held the last weekend in July.

LPRC is an active pool with full membership for the past 2 years. The membership is made up primarily of families with children, so there is an ample talent pool from which to draw swimmers. We have a highly successful winter swim program just a few years old, and an active developmental program, the Little Lazers, which supplies the Lazers with new competitiveswimmers each year. Apply right away – a successful candidate could also be hired to help with our winter swim program that meets Saturdays 4:30-5:30PM.
