NVSL Division 12 Ends Dual Meet Season with Five Team Tie for First Place!
Sat, 7-20-2013 | Jim Shlesinger
In what appears to be a first ever occurrence in the 58 year history of the NVSL, a Division has ended in a five way tie for 1st place among the six teams in the Division. Camelot, Hiddenbrook, Laurel Hill, Rutherford and Walden Glen each finished the dual meet season with a 3-2 win/loss record. All five teams will share in the Division 12 title. The NVSL will award Division 12 Championship trophies to all five teams. Congratulations to Camelot, Hiddenbrook, Laurel Hill, Rutherford and Walden Glen!

NVSL Marks 50th Anniversary for Relay Carnival
Sun, 7-14-2013 | Jim Shlesinger
This year marks the 50th Anniverary of the League's Relay Carnival. Our All-Star Relay Carnival will be held at Lincolnia Park. Information is provided in the DOCUMENTS section under All-Star Relay Carnival, 2013 - Lincolnia Park.
In 1963, the League believed there was a need for something more than swim meets which recognized individual performance. NVSL President Don Stocking of Dominion Hills, Vice-President Raymond Stang of Woodley, and Meet Manager Bob Mangan of Vienna Woods were instrumental in organizing the first Relay Carnival which was hosted by Donaldson Run. There were no division relay carnivals and only one heat per event in 1963 based on seed times submitted by Team Reps to the League. Obviously, the event has grown considerably, and is now the premier team event of our season.

Living Legend Roger McLeod Returns to his NVSL Roots
Mon, 7-8-2013 | Keenan Goldsby
Anyone familiar with the NVSL Record Book knows the name Roger McLeod. He has owned the NVSL Record in Event Number 1, 8 & Under Boys 25 Freestyle, for nearly 50 years. In 1965, Roger posted incredible times of 15.10 (meters) and 13.90 (yards) which have stood the test of time and have often been considered "unbeatable" records. On Saturday July 6 Roger, who is a member of Hollin Hills, was invited to attend their meet against Woodley. He was recognized at the beginning of the meet, and during the break between the individual events and the relays he provided the swimmers and spectators with a special treat. After being challenged to a race by 7 year-old Haskew Pearson of Hollin Hills, Roger went home, put on his suit and showed that he still "has it." While Haskew gave him a run for his money, Roger prevailed! The NVSL is pleased to announce that Roger has agreed to present the awards at this year's Individual All-Stars for 8 & Under Freestyle and Backstroke.
