Job Title Head Coach Position
Job Description

Hunt Valley Stingrays is a Swim Team based in Springfield, Virginia.  Our summer swim program is geared for swimmers of all abilities ages 5-18.  We typically have between 150 to 200 swimmers participating throughout the summer season.  We are part of the competitive Northern Virginia Swimming League ("NVSL") that is comprised of 17 Divisions and we are currently in Division 3. 


Hunt Valley is seeking a Head Coach who can implement effective swim instruction, develop daily practice routines that fit all ages and skill levels, be able to effectively communicate to coaches, swimmers and parents, and provide a safe and fun environment throughout the swim season.  Below is a brief description of what we are looking for and what is required to be considered for this position.



- Previous Head Coach experience or extensive coaching experience
- Experience in managing a team with swimmers of various age levels as well as all swimming abilities.
- Experience working with an assistant coach or coaches.
- Experience managing and mentoring a team of lane coaches.
- Familiarity with the NVSL is preferred.



- Plan and implement daily swim practice routines (dry land and in-water) for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
- Select swimmers to participate in all meets and assist in any meet sheet preparation.
- Conduct and lead all team practices
- Make the final decision on which events swimmers are entered according to NVSL and greater Springfield/Burke development league rules
- Maintain swimmer attendance records.
- Track and submit coaching hours to Team Rep(s) 3 times throughout the season.
- Provide in-water swimming instruction.
- Provide equal attention to all swimmers.
- Be available to meet with parents weekly or upon request.
- Take disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Maintain communication with the Team Rep(s) and Assistant/Lane Coaches as to the attendance, progress and abilities of the swimmers.
- Foster a spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship.



- Currently possess or are currently in the process of obtaining certification in safety training for swim coaching, CPR & First Aid
- Currently possess a pool operator license or have a willingness to obtain one at the direction and expense of the swim team prior to the start of the season.

Required hours:

Swim Practice

Memorial Day through last day of Fairfax County Public School
    - Monday – Friday from 4:00pm – 7:30pm.

- Middle of June through the NVSL All Star Swim Meet (usually first week of August
    - Monday – Friday from 7:15am – 10:45am.

 Additional availability required 

Monday Night Swim meets – 5 meets
- Wednesday Night Invitational Meets – 3 meets
- Saturday Morning Swim Meets – 7 Meets and a Time Trial
- Tuesday Night Seeding Meeting
- Friday Night Pep Rallies
- Swim Banquet: Sunday night at end of season


Salary: Commensurate with experience
