Job Title Coaching Staff Positions
Job Description
The Highland Park Hurricanes in Alexandria, Virginia are hiring a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach for the 2020 summer swim season.

The primary responsibilities of the Head Coach include:
* Identify, interview, and recommend candidates to round out coaching staff;
* Conduct pre-season swimmer assessments for new swimmers who wish to join the team;
   - TBD. at Lee District Pool;
   - TBD. at Highland Park Pool;
   - TBD. at Highland Park Pool;
* Attend and participate in pre-season parent information session;
* Seed all A-meets;
* Help swimmers determine appropriate event participation in B-meets;
* Inputting meet selections into the Swimtopia and updating them as swimmer availability necessitates;
* Coaching at all meets (including time trials, A-meets and B-meets, relay meets, invitational meets, divisional and All-Star meets);
* Participating in and contributing to Friday night pep rallies during the competitive season;
* Attending and preparing for the end of season awards banquet;
* Mentoring all coaches and interns on deck during the swim season and during swim practices;
* Other duties as assigned.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
* Assist coaching staff in set up and break down of pool for practice and meets;
* Create engaging practice sets for all swimmer experience levels prior to practice that focuses on stroke development, dives, turns, and relay take off;
* Organize and participate in pre-season parent information session as assigned;
* Guide swimmers in determining appropriate event participation in B-meets;
* Assist Head Coach in seeding A-meets;
* Input meet selections into Swimtopia and updating them as swimmer availability necessitates;
* Coaching at all meets (including time trials, A-meets and B-meets, relay meets, invitational meets, divisional and All-Star meets);
* Participating in and contributing to Friday night pep rallies during the competitive season, including Floatie deliveries
* Assist with planning for the end of season awards banquet: Award nominations and paper plates
* Collaborating with all coaches and mentoring Junior Coaches on deck during the swim season, embracing sportsmanship and team spirit

QUALIFICATIONS FOR BOTH POSITIONS:
* High school or college swimming experience
* 2-3 years coaching summer swim programs
* Current CPR certification;
* Excellent communication skills required; including demonstrated critical thinking skills;
* Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under pressure;
* Punctuality and flexibility is required;
