Job Title Head Swim Coach - 2024 Summer Season
Job Description
The Hunt Valley Stingrays, a 2023 division 3 swim team located in West Springfield, is currently accepting applications for the head coach position for the 2024 summer swim
season. The Stingrays team consists of around 200 swimmers with a variety of swimming abilities and backgrounds. We are looking for an experienced coach who, in addition to having swimming knowledge, has a great attitude, energy and enthusiasm to work with swimmers ages 5-18.

Our season starts after Memorial Day weekend with daily afternoon/after school practice sessions and switches to morning daily practices after the last day of school for Fairfax County. Practices during the summer begin approximately 7am and conclude at approximately 11 am.
Head coach responsibilities:
  • *Create and implement practices for all swimmers and abilities
  • *Improve swimmers stroke technique with direct instruction of stroke mechanics
  • *Manage the coaching staff
  • *Work with team representatives
  • *Provide constructive and appropriate feedback to all swimmers during practices and at meets
  • *Prepare for all meets, collaborating with team representatives and assistant coach(es) on swimmer eligibility and compiling competitive meet sheets for division meets
  • *Working with swimmers to develop and become stroke legal for developmental meets
  • *Participate in all swim team events, including practices, meets, and social events
  • *Plan and attend all pep rallies along with coaching staff
  • *Encourage, teach and build upon sportsmanship and team spirit
  • *Maintain effective communication with parents and team representatives
  • *Display a positive attitude
  • *Create and cultivate a fun environment for our swimmers
  • *Be available for complete NVSL season, first practice through Individual All Star meet
  • *Coordination with Dive team and developmental program throughout the season

Position Requirements:
  • *Previous coaching experience
  • *Strong swim stroke and swim technique knowledge
  • *Effective communication, organization, and leadership skills
  • *Positive team spirit
  • *Pool operator license, lifeguard/water safety and CPR/first aid certified, and USA
  • *Swimming Safe Sport training or ability to obtain all prior to season

Position Preferences:
  • *Knowledge of USA swimming and NVSL rules
  • *Previous competitive swimming experience
  • *Salary: Commensurate with experience
