Job Title Head Swim Coach - 2024 Season
Job Description

The Dowden Terrace Dolphins are seeking a head coach for the summer of 2024, from May 27th (the day after Memorial Day) through July 28th (after All Stars). The spirited team consists of approximately 150 swimmers ranging in age from 5 – 18.

The Head Coach is responsible for managing all aspects of the swim program including:

  • Managing assistant and junior coaches
  • Day to day running of practices
  • Coaching and preparation for all meets throughout the summer (NVSL “A” meets, Monday night “B” meets, relay carnivals, Divisionals, All Stars, etc)
  • Running team and coach’s meetings
  • Attending team spirit events including our Friday night pep rallies
  • Bringing the FUN to all aspects of summer swimming

We are looking for a professional and experienced coach with a love for swimming and working with swimmers of all levels and abilities from our tiny Flippers just learning the ropes to our highly competitive teenagers.


  • Previous head swimming coaching experience or extensive assistant coaching experience
  • Familiarity with NVSL rules and USA swimming rules
  • Ability to demonstrate and teach all strokes, turns, starts and finishes
  • Knowledge of best practices and training techniques for successful competitive swimming
  • General knowledge or willingness to learn Hy-Tek Team Manager software
  • Strong communication, organization and leadership skills.
  • Ability and experience working with children of all ages, ability and competitive levels
  • Background Check and USA Swimming Athlete Protection Training
  • Fairfax County Pool Operator license, lifeguard and CPR certification, preferred

Coaching Compensation
