Job Title Head Swim Coach - 2023 Season
Job Description

The Orange Hunt Swim and Tennis Club is accepting applications for our Swim Team Head Coach position.

Orange Hunt Swim and Tennis Club is located in Springfield, VA and competed in NVSL’s Division 4 for the 2022 summer swim season. View our club website here. The Shark’s Swim Team and MiniShark program typically has about 100 families with 175-225 swimmers across all ages.

We are currently looking for an individual to lead our competitive and fun neighborhood team! The ideal candidate is high-energy, positive, and focused on developing all swimmers. Our team’s focus is not only on stroke technique but also sportsmanship, teamwork, and team spirit!

The head coach will be assisted by one to two assistant coaches and will manage several other junior lane coaches.

Our practices begin the day after Memorial Day and continue in evenings until Fairfax County Public School is out at which time they move to the mornings, Monday through Friday. Swim meets are held Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. We will also be holding evening clinics and other opportunities for additional stroke development under the supervision of the head coach. Providing private, user-pay lessons outside practice times is also encouraged and preferred.

In 2022 we started a non-competitive Masters’ Swim program that was very successful. This practice is before Swim Team, and is under the supervision of our Head Coach with the help of an assistant coach. Compensation is given for this additional coaching responsibility. We expect 30-40 adult swimmers.


Previous NVSL coaching experience

Experience in seeding meets

Experience managing others

Excellent communication skills

Lifeguard Certified

CPR and First Aid Certified

Pool Operator Certificate, if not currently certified willing to secure at the team’s expense

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficient with Hy-tek software


Attend all practices, meets, and events (including social events and setup and breakdown of meets)

Create practice workout: all four strokes should be covered, as well as dives, turns, and finishes

Develop individual swimmer’s technique and provide feedback to all swimmers

Prepare swimmer lineups for meets

Provide guidance and feedback to assistant coaches 

Foster importance of teamwork and team spirit

Interact with parents, swimmers, and fellow coaches in a professional manner

Conduct yourself as a positive role model

Keep open lines of communication with team representatives
