Coach Wanted
Team Lincolnia Park
Job Title Head Coach 2019
Job Description

The Lincolnia Park Recreational Club summer swim team, the Lazers (LPRC), is seeking a Head Coach for the 2019 swim season. (We are also seeking someone to run our Winter Swim program (see the separate job posting) and the best candidate for Head Coach in 2019 would also be willing to run our Winter Swim program Saturday afternoons for one hour.) While we have a group of older swimmers from whom to draw Assistant Coaches, we are also open to the Head Coach bringing in one or two Assistant Coaches. The Lazers are a well-established team located in Alexandria, Virginia. The Lazers currently compete in Division 15 of the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL).

An ideal candidate would have Head or Assistant coaching experience, and connections to year-round and/or High School swimming programs, and thus the ability to bring in additional swimmers to bolster the Lazers’ swim team, particularly older swimmers. We want a fun program in which swimmers of all physical abilities improve their swimming skills, but one also that is competitive during Saturday swim meets. Encouraging a love of swimming, great swimming technique, and top sportsmanship fits the Lazers’ team history and we want that tradition to continue. To accomplish this, a Head Coach will have to be able to connect with K-12 swimmers, and encourage and motivate them to work hard to improve their swimming skills.

We are looking for a well-organized, motivated individual with great communications skills to lead approximately (110) swimmers of all ability levels in our developmental and competitive summer swim league as well as coordinating and managing our assistant and junior coaches. The Head Swim Coach has duties and responsibilities to organize, implement, manage and direct the Lazers Team swim programs. They will instruct Lazers swim team members in proper swimming technique, conditioning, and drills.

The Lazers Swim Season starts the Tuesday after Memorial Day with afternoon practices Monday-Friday. Once Fairfax County Public Schools end the school year, practices are held in the mornings Monday-Friday, and limited afternoon practices (for parents who cannot bring their swimmers to the morning sessions) Tuesday-Thursday. Developmental swim meets are held on Monday evenings and Competitive Meets are Saturday mornings throughout Northern Virginia until the end of July, with our All Star meet, held the first weekend in August.

LPRC is an active pool with full membership for the past 2 years. The membership is made up primarily of families with children, so there is an ample talent pool from which to draw swimmers. We have a highly successful winter swim program just a few years old, and an active developmental program, the Little Lazers, which has been supplying the Lazers with new swimmers each year.
