Job Title 2018 Head Coach
Job Description

The Fairfax Station Flyers, a Division 7 summer swim team, seeks a HEAD COACH for the 2018 season. We have a strong history with over 30 years in the Northern Virginia Swim League. Summer season runs from mid-May until early August. Our pool is located in the Fairfax Station neighborhood at the corner of Route 123 and Robert Carter Road. The team is comprised of approximately 150 swimmers.  The majority of our swimmers live in the Fairfax Station neighborhood as well as neighboring Clifton. 

We are looking for a professional HEAD COACH who has great enthusiasm for children and a passion for coaching. Important qualities for our next coach include:
  - Excellent communication skills with children, other coaches, and parents
  - Compassion for swimmers of all levels and fostering a sense of leadership in teens
  - A desire to grow and retain a competitive swim environment for the Flyers

Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
  - Lead all practices for the swim team and oversee assistant coaches
  - Facilitate swimmers to develop and achieve individual goals
  - Provide swimmer feedback on progress and goals
  - Continuously work to build our pipeline of younger swimmers while still maintaining the interest and commitment of older teens
  - Prepare for, participate, and attend all NVSL Dual Meets, all Springfield/Burke League, “B” Meets, IM meet, all Relay Event Meets, and Individual Divisional/All Star Meets
  - Seed Saturday meets with the goal to maximize points scored
  - Enthusiastically support and encourage all swimmers at all meets
  - Conduct agreed upon Stroke & Turn and Start Clinics
  - Attend and participate in team social functions
  - Mentor junior/volunteer coaches
  - Prepare and create team building activities

Requirements:
  - Knowledge of best practices and training techniques for competitive swimming
  - Previous coaching experience, Head Coach experience preferred but not required
  - Experience working with children of all ages
  - Strong personal and communication skills
  - Knowledge of NVSL rules and regulations a plus
  - Hytek experience a plus
  - Must be certified in CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard/Water Safety
  - Must hold a current pool operator’s license
